Oct. 5th - 9th

 Looking Back:

This week in Grade 1, we spent time reviewing the short vowel sounds for a, i, and o. Students practiced reading and writing words with these vowel sounds and continued building their confidence as beginning readers and writers.

In math, we explored teen numbers by representing them with ten frames and tally marks. We also had fun conducting a class survey and using tally marks to collect and record data. Students enjoyed seeing how math can help us organize information and answer questions.

We began a new science unit on investigations! We discussed what an investigation is and shared things we are curious about and would like to learn more about. The class was full of great questions and excited thinkers.

As part of our literacy learning, we read The Thankful Book by Todd Parr. After discussing the story, students reflected on the things they are thankful for and completed a journal writing activity beginning with, "I am thankful for...".

We also met with our Grade 3 buddies for a fun collaborative activity. Together, students designed creative disguises for a turkey, using their imaginations and teamwork skills to help keep their turkeys hidden!

To wrap up the week, we played a class game of Snakes and Ladders. Students practiced taking turns, counting spaces, and following game rules. Everyone received a game board to take home and is encouraged to teach someone in their family how to play. We hope you have fun playing together! 😊

Have a wonderful long weekend!

Looking Ahead:

HALLOWEEN at MTS

MTS will be celebrating Halloween on Thursday, October 29.

A reminder to all participants to please leave any weapons or gory accessories that may go with your costume at home.  Costumes must be non-violent in nature (no guns, swords, fake blood). If a mask is part of their Halloween costume, we ask that students not wear the mask at school as it may be disruptive to student learning.

Please do not send any treats with your child to share due to allergies and other medical concerns.

Students will be participating in classroom-based Halloween themed learning activities that are sure to be fun and engaging.
